Senior Citizens: How do you look at the treatment of elders in American culture, vs. other ethnic cultures?

I'm only a teenager, and yet I agree with this. I live in the UK, but my family is from India, and the way western cultures treat the elders is much less respectful than in eastern cultures. Even in Italy, elders are revered, whereas I have friends who see their older relatives as an annoyance.
